Poem Twenty-Five

The Fish
by: Marianne Moore
This was a very confusing poem and it did not flow. The whole entire poem describes a fish but I did not see any connection to anything except that it is about a fish. It was very hard to follow and understand and it was very random. There was however good description.

Poem Twenty-Four

Days
by: Philip Larkin
This poem says how in our society we live by days and we live in a cycle of waking up and going to sleep and beginning and ending. The author believes that because we only have days we should take advantage of everyday that way we don't waste a month, year or decade. This poem does not rhyme but if flowed very well.

Poem Twenty-Three

Solitude
by: Alexander Pope
This poem describes the feeling of being alone with nature and how peaceful it can be. I agree that it is important to appreciate nature and this author believes that the best way to appreciate nature is to take it in in solitude and in a peaceful mind.

Poem Twenty-Two

Darkness
by: Lord Byron
This poem reflects on the differences between light and dark and the differences between dreams and reality. The author says that there are many similarities between dreams and reality and that our dreams are metaphors, sometimes literal, for real life.

Poem Twenty-One

The Garden
by: Andrew Marvell
Sometimes it is better to appreciate the smaller things in life. In the poem the author uses visual writing to describe a garden. It can be peaceful, beautiful and is necessary in everyone's life. I agree that something small like a garden can brighten somebody's day.

Poem Twenty

Night
by: P.B. Shelley
This poem is very descriptive but it would be a lot better if it rhymed. It is about the many different things that can happen at night and all of the creatures that comes out at night. It also says not to waste the night away. We are always awake for the day but it is also important to take advantage of the night.

Poem Nineteen

The Hippopotamus
by: T.S. Eliot
This poem is about the simple life a hippopotamus and how we should live like them. This poem does not rhyme but it flows. It also incorporates a religious twist. It says how we should never be afraid because we will always be supported and we should not really worry about material things.

Poem Eighteen

Cheery Beggar
by: G.M. Hopkins
I thought this was good poem. It teaches us that we should help those around us and portrays the idea of karma saying that if one sends out positive energy they will get it in return. It also relays ideas about being positive and how important that is in life.

Poem Seventeen

Exit
by: Rita Dove
This poem is an inspirational poem that says when all hope goes away and you feel like you need to give up that you just need to believe in yourself and know that everything will turn out okay. It is a very descriptive poem and also says that it is okay to take a break because at times the world can be very hectic.

Poem Sixteen

A Fit of Rhyme Against Rhyme
by: Ben Johnson
This poem rhymes very well and talks about rhyming. The good aspects and the bad aspects about rhyming. Personally I prefer poems that rhyme as it keeps it interesting and I think it requires more skill to write a poem that rhymes.

Poem Fifteen

The Sea is History
by: Derek Walcott
This poem was very descriptive but was difficult to read. It portrayed some interesting ideas such that the sea holds the history of the world and that the creatures in the sea are the creatures of earlier centuries. It was a little hard to read and it did not flow very well.

Poem Fourteen

Asleep
by: John Keats
A very descriptive poem about the benefits of sleep and how important it is to us. It says that we do not get a lot of it but when we do sleep, it is a time to take advantage of. With sleep comes happy dreams and connection to the supernatural world. This poem did not flow and was hard to comprehend.

Poem Thirteen

On His Blindness
by: John Milton
This poem is about the importance of being able to see and how many people take it for granted. We don't realize how important eye sight can be until it is taken away but it is important to appreciate our surrounds and our ability to see it. This is a very descriptive poem of feelings.

Poem Twelve

June Light
by: Richard Wilbur
This is a very descriptive poem about the beginning of summer and all of the amazing things that can happen during the summer. He describes how the light changes in the summer making everything more beautiful. The poem is a little hard to follow and kind of jumps around randomly.

Poem Eleven

Spaces We Leave Empty
by: Cathy Song
This poem is about all of the things that we take for granted. We have many material things but it is important to identify what means the most to us otherwise, if it is lost or stolen, we will not regret not cherishing the item before. I though this was a really good poem that flowed and rhymed well.

Poem Ten

A Noiseless, Patient Spider
by: Walt Whitman
This poem is about a spider, that is looking at the world around him and sees it's immense size but proceeds without fear. He relates this to people saying that we are small compared to this huge world, but we should proceed without fear, saying that there are organisms smaller than us that do the same thing. This is a great metaphor for life.

Poem Nine

The Road Not Taken
by: Robert Frost
This poem is about decisions. There are always decisions that we will make and look back on and wonder if it was the right decision. He connects this with a road that splits in two and states that he cannot take both paths, and that when he is older he will wonder if he made the right decision.

Poem Eight

Success
by: Emily Dickinson
This poem states that the people who do not succeed very often are the people who think success is sweet and that people who succeed more don't see it the same way. This may be true but she also talks about defeat and how it is the same for everybody. This a very interesting and insightful poem and it flows very well.

Poem Seven

Dreams
by: Langston Hughes
This is a very inspirational poem and was written in a time in which African Americans were being discriminated and were fighting for equal rights. He describes the importance of dreams and I believe that if you have a dream and you believe in yourself then you can accomplish anything.

Poem Six

Morning Song
by: Sylvia Plath
This provides a physical description of the morning. It describes the feelings of waking up mentally and how the tiredness continues to come back. It creates a metaphor between being a newborn and waking up in the morning. It is a very interesting poem and it is very descriptive.

Poem Five

The Long Black Night
by: Robert Browning
This poem has amazing visual description of the darkness on the beach. The rhyme and the flow of the poem made it a joy to read and the author really brings you to the scene with the description and reference to all five senses. Peacefulness and quietness are portrayed as well as excitement and energy.

Poem Four

The Bean Eaters
by: Gwendolyn Brooks
This poem is about an older couple who eat beans. In the poem she describes their house and how they have "stuff" and "things" and how they use them to remember when they were young. This is an inspirational poem and I agree with the idea because life moves by fast and it is important to enjoy it while we can.

Poem Three

Guanahani 11
by: E.K. Braithwaite
I enjoyed this poem because it had great visual description and amazing description of feelings. I enjoyed the nature references from the moon to a thunder storm and specific details that are used to describe them. It is important that we appreciate nature and the environment we live in.

Poem Two

We May Live Together
by: Anne Bradstreet
This poem rhymes well but what she is trying to say or portray is hard to comprehend. She is talking about how much she loves her husband by creating metaphors to nature, for instance rivers and mountains. I think this poem is a little cliche and could use more visual description.

Poem One

Lullaby
by: W.H. Auden
This poem is about love and how we should take advantage of every moment we have with our loved ones. I agree with this idea because nobody knows if we will have tomorrow. Therefore we should say what we have to say and do what we have to do today.
